The Power of Attitude in Real Estate Success

The Power of Attitude in Real Estate Success

Welcome back to Mike Ferry TV. Tony Smith here with you today, coach and speaker for the Mike Ferry organization filling in for Mike Ferry. Okay, so there are some aspects of running a business, any business and some aspects of running a real estate business that we can’t literally can’t talk too much about. You know, in our business we can’t talk too much about sales skills, we can’t talk too much about generating business. We can’t talk too much about, you know, keeping track of the numbers because it’s a numbers game.

Today I want to talk about a word that we need to address literally all the time. And the word is attitude. With today’s world, you know, some of the negative things at the level that they’re going on out in the world and a little different market conditions than we maybe would like to see in certain parts of the country, it’s really important to take more time and more energy towards refining and improving and directing our attitude. Okay. So I want to spend a few minutes on this today and give you some tips. Hopefully that will help you keep a really strong attitude.

The first thing I would like to do is, you know, quote Earl Nightingale. You know, Earl Nightingale was one of the pioneers of this whole idea of attitude. He called it the magic word right attitude. And listen to this quote. Our attitude is something we can control. We can establish our attitude each morning when we start our day. In fact, we do just that, whether we realize it or not. All the people in our world will reflect back to us the attitude that we present to them. Okay. So what I took from that quote, it’s controllable. It’s a habit. It’s something that you can learn to affect, and we can. If we start each day controlling our attitude, then everyone we run into or we encounter in that day basically reflects back to us the attitude that we’re putting out to the world. Isn’t that so true? Isn’t it so true? So I started by having you maybe consider a few things.

The first thing I’d have you consider is, is think about your attitude in a few areas. What is your attitude? Just your general attitude about the career you’ve chosen, the real estate business as a whole. How would you describe your attitude if you had to describe the way you would like your attitude to be? Could you describe it? How about how is your attitude about listing properties versus working with buyers? What is your general attitude about being a strong listing agent? How would you like that attitude to be? Could you describe it? I wrote down my sales skills. What is your overall attitude about refining and developing your sales skills in the real estate business? What would you like your attitude to be? Could you describe it or write it out if you had to? How about this one? Buying for, waiting for or earning business. What is your attitude about the concept of you can go out and buy business. You can wait for business or you can spend most of your day earning business prospecting. What is your overall attitude about that? What’s your attitude about having a strong cand Listing Presentation.? Can you measure your attitude about that? How about your current income and production? What attitude would you like to have about your income and your production? And then the last thing. What is your attitude about? Where are the opportunities for you to get business. Okay, uh, at MFO, we know that this is your time. We know that when the world gets confusing, when the market declines, when things aren’t rosy. Um, Mike Ferry trained agents can really thrive if they keep a really tight grip on a great attitude. All right. So let’s take a look at this for a second. I there’s a note. I read an article and there were ten little tips in this article on how to maintain and keep a great positive attitude. So let’s look at these tips.

1) Start a gratitude journal

The first one was start a gratitude journal. Are you effectively starting your days with gratitude? Do you have a journal? Are you keeping track? Are you really working to improve your how grateful you are about what you have, the career you have, and what you’re trying to accomplish? A gratitude journal. It’s a great tip.

2) Treat yourself to some self-care every day

Look at tip number two. Treat yourself to some self-care every day. If you want to maintain a strong, positive attitude, treat yourself to some self-care. Are you getting to the gym and getting a good, solid workout in? Are you reading some from your favorite books? Are you dumping a lot of positivity in for self-care? Are you using positive affirmations regularly? Are you taking a long walk when you get a chance? Are you giving yourself some time for self-care? It helps you support a positive attitude.

3) Start every morning strong

Look at the third tip. Start every morning strong. Okay, if you’ve been around Mike Ferry at all, you know he’s been trying to teach us the power of a strong morning routine. Are you starting your morning strong? If you go back to that quote from Earl Nightingale, you have a choice to direct your attitude starting each and every day. Do you wake up and say, ah, I have to get up, it’s time to go to work? Or do you wake up and say, I wonder what the opportunities are in front of me today for me to increase my production and my profit? Right. Um, do you have a strong morning routine that supports a positive attitude? Please don’t jump into the news and jump into all the craziness that’s going on on social media. Stay out of it. Your attitude stays strong. Your morning stays strong.

4) Avoid spreading gossip

Look at the fourth tip. Avoid spreading gossip. Okay. Now this is a big deal. Probably more than ever in the history of people today spreading gossip. You know that most of the stuff that you read on the internet, or you see, is just simply not true. If something is being spread around, that’s not true. In essence, isn’t that gossip? So most of what’s on the internet is gossip. And then, of course, just personally, do you have a habit of spreading gossip about other agents or other people or other situations? That certainly doesn’t support a good, strong attitude, does it?

5) Involve more humor in your life

Look at point five. Involve more humor in your life. Okay. Mike Ferry if you go to a Mike Ferry presentation, you’re going to see him introduce some humor every 4 or 5 minutes. Why? Because humor heals. Humor is good for us. Uh, do you have enough humor in your life? Uh, do you have some great jokes that you’re just dying to tell somebody when you get a chance? Uh, are you watching things that you believe are funny to you? Humor heals. If you want a good, positive attitude, be sure and infuse a lot more humor in your life.

6) Take real breaks throughout the day to maintain a strong, positive attitude

How about number six? Take real breaks throughout the day to maintain a strong, positive attitude. We highly suggest that you take a couple of mindset breaks throughout the day. You know, step back from the work, step back from it, maybe watch a little of that humor, maybe read from a great book, maybe take a walk around the building, maybe go out and do something that just for a little break to break the grind of the work that we do.

7) Have something or create something to look forward to

Take those breaks, look at number seven, have something or create something to look forward to. How about after work? Do you have something to look forward to after work? You know, I can’t wait. As soon as I get this work done and I get that listing taken, I’m going to go take a long walk. We’re going to go have a nice dinner at a great restaurant. We’re going to meet with some of our friends. Right. I get to go spend a little time, you know, playing a few holes of golf. Uh, pickleball. What is it? Do you have something to look forward to all the time. All right. You know, we hear this word. The grind all the time. Grind, grind, grind. You know, if I virtually am convinced that my job is a grind, that certainly doesn’t sound like a lot of fun. Hey, let’s go back to the grind tomorrow. It doesn’t sound like fun. How about reframing it and go, you know, set some things that you’re really looking forward to after you do your job right. Keep your attitude up.

8) Practice meditation

Look at number eight. Practice meditation. Okay. If you want to maintain a strong mental attitude, you might spend a little more time understanding the art of meditation. You know, it doesn’t take hours and hours to meditate. You need to learn how to clear your mind, focus on your breathing. You know, remove some of the garbage that’s going on up there. And a few minutes of meditation certainly supports a strong, positive attitude for yourself.

9) Spend more time focusing on long term goals instead of just and only short-term goals

How about number nine? Spend more time focusing on long term goals instead of just and only short-term goals. Okay, so this little shift in the economy, maybe there’s a little shift in the economy, a little shift in the market conditions. Honestly, what does this little shift. What is your production so far this year really have to do with your three- and five-year goals? Are all those things still exciting? Are they still available to you? Can you still accomplish things 3 in 5 years from now? You’ve heard Mike Ferry say it. We always tend to overestimate what we can do in a month, a week, or a year and dramatically underestimate what we can accomplish in 3 or 5 years. Okay, that future is out there in front of you. Are you spending enough time looking at some long-term goals that you have for yourself, and for your family, and for your business. Look out into the future a little more.

10) Create an environment where you can start identifying the wins you’re having

Okay, how about number ten on number ten on this list? Yeah. How about creating an environment where you can start identifying the wins you’re having? How about identifying the wins you have. You know it’s really easy to find the losses. It’s really easy to see what you did wrong every day. It’s really easy to lock into that one opportunity you missed. How about starting and creating an environment where you keep track of the wins? What did you do right. Okay. What did you do well today? What are you most proud of today? If you can keep a log of wins in front of you all the time. Okay. The truth is, those wins, or those losses build up. And would you like to build up a series of losses? Doesn’t sound like a positive attitude. How about building up a strong series of wins. Keep track of your wins every single day. Okay. Our mentor, our leader, uh, Mr. Mike Ferry, probably exhibits one of the best overall attitudes that we could all mentor and follow after. Okay. He virtually lives what I just described to you today. He has one of the most positive, most optimistic, more most forward attitudes of anyone that I’ve ever met. So why don’t we be a little bit more like Mike? Why don’t we take some of these thoughts, and why don’t we approach the rest of this year with this idea that I am going to bring the right habit of having the right attitude to what I do? If you do, the results will go up and you’ll be happier for it. Thanks for your time.
